Just like the ceremonies I create from scratch, these ceremonies can be custom created around your personalities and personal interests. The best part about a unity ceremony is couples are not limited to any option. The officiant explains that Marriage takes 3 God, the Bride and Groom, and that by keeping God at the center of the marriage, His love will continue to bind the couple together as one throughout their married life. How it’s performed: The Groom holds a metal ring with 3 attached strands of rope (usually gold white and black to represent the Groom, God and the Bride), and the Bride braids the ropes. The God’s Knot Unity is a way to honor the Christian faith, symbolizing God’s design for marriage. The couple then pours the rest of their candy on top to represent a layer of protection for the family. Each child will then pour the contents of their jar representing how each child brings a special “ flavor” to the mix. First, the couple pours half of their candy in the bottom of a large jar to symbolize “ support: of the family. How it’s performed: Each member of the family fills a labeled mason jar with their favorite candy. This unity ceremony is perfect for couples with children that want to demonstrate the blending of their families. As they feed each other a bite, the Officiant explains that just as you can’t separate the peanut butter from the jelly or vice versa once the two pieces of bread are joined together into one sandwich, so the couple is also joined as one. How it’s performed: The couple heads over to the PB and J table where a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is waiting for them. Why peanut butter and jelly? Because they go so well together, just like you and your spouse-to-be! I’ll bet you never saw this one coming? I have to admit, it may seem odd, but what this unity represents is unmistakable. It’s at that time they would open the box, enjoy the wine and read each other’s love letters to remind them why they love each other and why they chose to get married. How It’s Performed: As the couple “locks” the box, the Officiant explains the box will remained locked until the couple experiences a difficult bump in the road during their marriage. They display the box in a prominent area of their home. ![]() During this ceremony, the couple locks a bottle of their favorite wine in a box along with sealed love letter’s they have written to the other but have not read. The Wine Box Ceremony aka Time Capsule is a great way to celebrate the love a couple has for each other along for their love and appreciation for wine. Either way it’s done, the Blanket Ceremony is a beautiful way to represent the couple’s oneness. This ceremony can also be done in a more modern way by wrapping the couple in a large colorful blanket while the Officiant reads a “blessing”. Those blankets are then removed, and the couple are then wrapped in a large single white blanket white symbolizing the couple’s dedication to filling their new lives with peace and happiness. How it’s performed: Traditionally, this ceremony is done with each individually wrapped in a blue blanket representing the couple’s separate lives before the wedding day. The Blanket Unity originated from an American Indian tradition, and represents the comfort and love the couple will give each other during their marriage. Blanket Unity What couples don’t realize is unity in marriage can be demonstrated in many different ways. If you’ve been to a wedding recently, you may have seen it done through the lighting of a unity candle, wine blending or through the sand ceremony. It symbolizes 2 hearts joined as 1 that can never be separated. A Unity Ceremony is the part of the wedding ceremony that demonstrates unity of the couple in marriage.
